Barend Courbois - Michael Schenker Group

Born as the son of the veteran jazz drummer, the Bird Award winner 'Sir' Pierre Courbois and art teacher Wendelina Courbois-Dam.

In '76 Barend started to play the bassguitar (he also played the drums, Indian tabla's and the Scottish bag pipes at that time).

In '78 his first live performance at the young age of 11.

Barend studied jazz bassguitar at the Lyceum of Music in Arnhem NL.

Influenced by bass-players like: Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Larry Graham, Bernard Edwards, Doug Wimbish, Marcus Miller, Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, Stu Hamm and Dutch bass hero Herman Deinum.
